Arthur V. Wittich has over 15 years of diverse legal experience representing prominent clients in both the private and
public sectors. Mr. Wittich has earned a national reputation for competence, integrity and judgment in
business and regulatory law. Mr. Wittich graduated magna cum laude from Utah State University with a B.S. double major in Environmental Studies and Economics. He received a J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law, where he was the Articles Editor for the Public Land Law Review. Mr. Wittich is admitted to practice law in the federal and state courts in Montana and Colorado, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals (9th, D.C. and Federal Circuits) and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Wittich was corporate counsel at the Montana Power Company from 1985 to 1989. In 1989, Governor Stan Stephens appointed Mr. Wittich as Chief Counsel to implement Montana's environmental policies. He also directed the state's major litigation, leading to structured settlements in two enforcement actions with $1+ million civil penalties, and the new legal management of one of the nation's largest natural resource damage actions. Mr. Wittich then brought his state experience to Washington, D.C., and organized the U.S. Coast Guard's environmental law program. Serving as Chief, he led a team of military and civilian attorneys in cases of first impression on the Endangered Species Act (Greenwood v. Admiral Kramek) and the CZMA (Long Island Power v. NJ). He also organized evidentiary databases to manage the service's exposure from 34 Superfund sites, all their facilities requiring Title V clean air permits, and thousands of contaminated navigation sites across the U.S. Wittich Law Firm, PC was founded by Arthur V. Wittich in Bozeman in 1995, and currently serves a diverse clientele in business and real estate transactions, and regulatory litigation.
